Important Things To Train Your Puppy

by Aiden Hill

When you get a puppy you are going to want to start with puppy obedience training right away. While your puppy may seem so young, you may be surprised to learn that even young puppies can pick things up quickly. However, you should start with the basics. After your puppy gets good with the basic obedience commands, then you can move on to the fun ones, like "roll over" or "play dead." Here are the basics you should start with and why it is important to cover them first.

House-training – House-training your puppy to go to the bathroom either outside or on puppy pads is extremely important. If you have a puppy that is going to stay small, then you may want to keep them going on puppy pads regularly because it will be safer for them, especially if you live in an area where there are prey animals. If your puppy will get to be a big dog, you should start them going outside soon, so they will learn that they do not go inside at all.

Come – "Come" is a very important command you want your puppy to learn as soon as possible. Once your puppy knows to come when you call, you will be able to get it to come to you right away if it is nearing danger or starting to get too far from you.

Stay – "Stay" is another important command to teach your puppy. When you tell it to stay and you know it will remain where you want it, you won't have to worry about getting up and chasing it around as it refuses to listen and possibly gets hurt. Also, knowing to stay when you tell it to stay will make it easier for you to bring your puppy places with you because you can get it to behave.

Lie down – There will be many times you will want your puppy to lie down near you and relax. That's why this is another very important command for your puppy to learn as soon as possible.

Sit – "Sit" is a significant obedience command that puppies should learn young. You want your puppy to know it is supposed to sit and wait for you to feed it, and your puppy should know it is supposed to sit at the door and not run out to where it can get hurt.

Walking on a leash – Puppies should learn how to walk on a leash early on. The sooner they learn to walk on the leash the right way, the easier it is going to be for you to avoid issues like your puppy pulling or trying to break free.

About Me

tips for training your large breed dog

My husband insists on having large dogs in the house. When he brought the first dog home as a puppy, I was excited and thought that it could be a good thing. As time went by, that little puppy turned into a big, disobedient dog that destroyed the house when we weren't home with him. It got to the point in which I threatened to move out of the house unless my husband did something to get his dog under control. He took the dog to training classes and learned how to train the dog to behave. Since then, we have added two more large dogs to the family that are well-behaved companions. This blog will show you some tips for training your large breed dog to behave properly.
